The book was interesting from start to finish and I loved the two different families and some not being related to each other. I just wish we knew more about the littles.

Is it noir? Is it epic fantasy? It doesn't matter! It's easy reading, has high adventure, and while sometimes cloying in terms of its masculinity, it's pretty funny. Discovering the larger mythos here of the Nevernever, the Fae, the Wizard Courts, etc. will keep me reading to see just how big this story gets.

The Mysterious Affair At Styles By Agatha Christie

A great way for Hercule Poirot and his friend Hastings to be introduced, although it was not my first Poirot book by Agatha Christie. Always kept you thinking of what was going to happen or come forward, right up until the last paragraph, literally.

This Hallowed Ground

Bruce Catton's trilogy about the Army of the Potomac (Mr. Lincoln's Army, Glory Road, This Hallowed Ground) was a magnificent undertaking. The third volume won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, but the awards were for the series. Catton's research was impressive, his writing was superb, and his ability to blend individual stories within a coherent general account is unsurpassed. The last year of the Civil War turned hard and ugly even compared to the first three years. The Battle of the Wilderness, stunningly portrayed, followed a doomed cavalry raid on Richmond, and set the tone for the year to come. It wouldn't be until Appomattox that a touch of grace appeared. Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan propelled the Union effort, and their characters are well described.

3rd in a series and another amazing book. Enjoyed the book as it was one I couldn't put down once I started it. Well-written, good humor, set in modern times...definitely recommend it!

Cibola Burn

I'm buddy-reading these with my mom (we started back in January and just started back up again) and the sixty pages we read each day go by in a flash. Each book is distinct, with this one being a frontier drama that deals with how people start societies. Each new POV character is carefully contrasted with those from the previous books, with Poor James Holden and the Weight of the Universe anchoring the rapidly-increasing scope of the series. It's equal parts hard science fiction and escapism, but each book has been built around a carefully-crafted sense of what it has to say.
